The initial problem with connecting the scart cable was solved by a very helpful member of Clifford James staff. Unfortunately it still caused all sorts of problems with other programmes and was erratic in terms of the drivers being recognised. Have returned for a refund.

I did not want to pay extra for insurance on the postage but was charged anyway.The description for the video grabber made it sound much easier than it is.
